SEND Advisers

Who are the SEND Advisers?

There are currently two full-time SEND Advisers, who provide advice and support to all mainstream and specialist settings in Hounslow. The SEND Advisers work in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Team, within Children’s and Adults’ Services.

Our aim is to ensure that all mainstream schools in Hounslow offer inclusive Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) to support all children and young people with SEND to have their needs identified and interventions implemented.

Note for SENCOs/Other SEND Professionals:
Hounslow have produced guidance documents five areas of need for what should be ordinarily available in Education. These are viewable on our SEND Local Offer site. These guidance documents provide consistency and a common set of expectations. They outline what provision for each area of need should be made within our mainstream schools in Hounslow, for the majority of children and young people with SEND, within the structure of core and delegated funding (notional budgets).

What do they do?

The SEND Advisers support all Primary and Secondary Mainstream schools in Hounslow, to embed a graduated response and offer inclusive Ordinarily Available Provision for children and young people with SEND.

We lead the termly SENCO Forums, which are a Continuous Professional Development (CPD), Networking and Information-Sharing event for all Primary and Secondary SENCO colleagues and produce a half-termly SENCO Bulletin to share relevant information, articles and training opportunities.

We work closely with SENCOs and Senior Leadership Teams to enable them to support staff in identifying needs early and embedding inclusive practise, by implementing High-Quality Teaching Expectations and SEND support strategies consistently. The SEND Advisers’ support includes regular school visits, discussions with staff, learning walks, delivering training sessions & workshops and in-class observations, followed up with comprehensive visit notes and suggested next steps.
