Social care support for complex disabilities

Find out what disabilities are supported and the type of care available after an assessment.

Disabilities supported


  • severe physical/ learning disability
  • severely visually impaired (blind)
  • registered as hearing impaired (deaf) and uses BSL
  • terminal illness
  • aged 14+ with Down syndrome (although this could be younger depending on their level of learning need)
  • young people over 18 with learning disabilities or autism and who meet the National Eligibility Criteria

Support available 

  • After an assessment, you could get the following support:
  • day care
  • short breaks
  • self-help and parent groups
  • play schemes
  • direct payments
  • home care support
  • overnight short breaks
  • referrals to specialist services
