Parents, teachers, support workers and health and social care professionals gathered online on Wednesday 7th October 2020 to discuss plans to transform the provision of Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) services in Hounslow.
Over 100 people attended the webinar organised by Hounslow Council’s SEND Service which has been exploring ways to more efficiently deploy resources to meet growing demand for its services.
Hounslow has the highest number of Education, Health and Care plans compared to similar neighbouring boroughs, and the focus of the transformation programme is to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.
The SEND Service is planning to increase inclusive provision in Hounslow’s schools so that the majority of children and young people with special education needs or disabilities get the support they need at their local school. Services at the borough’s special schools will be recommissioned to meet the changing needs of the young people who use their services.
Feedback collected from the webinar’s attendees, who also included health and care colleagues, childminders and headteachers, will inform the further development of the programme.
