Hounslow's Children's Centres - Healthy Lifestyles

Children’s Centre’s support families with children aged 0-5 years with a wide range of services including perinatal wellbeing groups by referral. 

Nurturing Future Minds (Opens in New Window)

Parents and carers can access free information, advice and online resources, including videos, activity ideas and links to trusted websites, to help them maintain or boost their own mental health and wellbeing and feel confident to do the same for their children. 

Health visiting for children under 5 years
Support available from a health visitor
  • antenatal contact (from 28 weeks onwards)
  • new Birth Review (10 to 14 days after your baby is born)
  • 6 to 8 week maternal mood review (contact at well child clinic)
  • 1 year health review 
  • 2 year ASQ health review 
  • referring your child to professionals who specialise in identifying and supporting special needs.

Speech and language therapy for young people
Support for children and young people aged 0 to 19 years who experience difficulties with speech, language, communication and swallowing.    
The child or young person can get the following services so they can develop their independence as much as possible.
  • assessment, diagnosis, therapy, and management of disorders
  • training and advice for parents, carers, and professionals
  • access to professionals and voluntary organisations

A universal service for children aged 5-19 years old who attend a school in Hounslow, are home schooled or live in Hounslow. Visit the website for the full range of services offered by the school nursing service.

Oral Health - Parents

NHS dental treatment is free for children and young people under 18 and people who meet certain criteria. Find out if you qualify for free treatment.

Infants should:

  • start seeing a dentist as soon after their first teeth appear
  • Visit your dentist regularly
  • Brush teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste - Fluoride helps to strengthen and protect teeth
  • Cut down on sugary foods and drink

Resources to Improve Access to Primary Care for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (Opens in New Window)
In partnership with City University London, the Refugee Council have developed these practical resources to support refugees and asylum seekers to access primary healthcare, includes links to 'How to Access the GP' in a variety of languages. 
Daily online trauma and resilience support sessions (Opens in New Window)
Dedicated to all Ukrainians – ex-pats, refugees, and those staying in the country – that need practical psychological and emotional support in the current situation. This will be led by experts and translated into Ukrainian.

Offering free confidential, 1-2-1 counselling service for young people aged 11-25. This is a self-referral service.

BeeZee Bodies have been commissioned by Hounslow Council as part of funding by Public Health England to provide free support for local families to make healthy changes to their lifestyle.

Want to make healthy habits together as a family and have fun doing it? We're here to help improve your family's health and wellbeing. Our team are experts at engaging kids around healthy eating and healthy habits (we've even won awards to prove it!) and now we're offering support to families in Hounslow for FREE!

Who is eligible? Families with at least one child who is 5 to 15 years old, has a BMI more than 91st centile and lives/goes to school/ is registered with a GP in Hounslow... the whole family is encouraged  to participate together.

HYPE is the Young People’s Drug and Alcohol service for the London Borough of Hounslow. We work with those affected by drugs and alcohol, or who have a negative experience of parental substance misuse.

Free wellbeing support for the LGBTQ+ community. Available for young people aged 16 to 25 who live work or are education in the Hounslow borough

A helpline for anyone seeking advice about the mental health of a young person.
Call freephone 0800 328 4444 and choose option 2.
The helpline is open:
Monday to Friday from 8am to 11pm, Weekends and Bank holidays from midday to 8pm
Outside these hours, crisis calls will be passed to an out of hours CAMHS professional. If they're not available to talk straight away, you can arrange a call back.

Hounslow CAMHS (Opens in New Window)

The Child Adolescent mental health service provides mental health assessment and treatment for children, young people and their families living within the boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow, and Hammersmith and Fulham, up to their 18th birthday.

Referrals are accepted from several professionals, including: GPs, Social workers, Health professionals including paediatricians, school nurses and health visitors, Adult mental health services, Schools, via the Educational Psychologist, SENCO, or Behaviour Support Team, Tier 2 multi-agency teams.

IAPT Hounslow (Opens in New Window)
We offer talking therapies for people over 18 who have a GP in the London Borough of Hounslow.

We help you with common problems like stress, anxiety and depression. It could be that you’re feeling low, having trouble sleeping, or feeling frightened. These are all things that we can help with. 
Together Hounslow
The project involves working with migrants and refugees to offer well-being activities and 1:1 therapy sessions. We can also work with Asylum seekers if places are available. We currently have 2 services on offer:

Rise and Shine

well-being sessions every Tuesday 2 to 3.30pm at Gunnersbury Park. These include mental and physical well-being. (e.g. exercise, arts and crafts, nature, gardening)

1:1 therapy sessions

with EACH Counselling services (from 6 to 16 sessions depending on need).

Who is eligible

  • Refugees and migrants: those who have experienced migration first hand, and have a need for integration support. for example, refugees with BRP cards, migrants with leave to remain status.
  • Asylum seekers are accepted for EACH Counselling and for Rise & Shine activity sessions where places are available
  • British citizens with refugee/migration experience
Who isn't eligible:
  • British Citizens with no refugee/migration experience
  • EU citizens
  • BAME individuals born in the UK/ without migration experience or integration needs.
