Information and support for the first 1,001 day of a baby's life, from conceptions to their 2nd birthday

Children's Centres

Children’s Centre’s support families with children aged 0-5 years offering services across venues in Hounslow. They provide a supportive, safe and welcoming environment for all local families offering support with:

  • Advice, information and support
  • Helping families to prepare for nursery or school
  • Supporting healthy lifestyles
  • Parenting support groups/courses
  • Support in returning to work

Health visiting for children under 5 years

Support available from a health visitor
  • antenatal contact (from 28 weeks onwards)
  • new birth review (10 to 14 days after your baby is born)
  • 6 to 8 week maternal mood review (contact at well child clinic)
  • 1 year health review
  • 2 year ASQ health review

Early Years SEN Team

The Early Years SEN Team consists of Early Years SEN Advisory Teachers and Early Years SEN Specialist Practitioners. We work directly with early years providers (private, voluntary, and independent) within the London Borough of Hounslow.

Who the service is for:
The team works with Ofsted registered early years providers to help develop quality inclusive provision and to support the inclusion of children from 0 - 5 years with special educational needs and/or disability (SEND). Please note we do not work directly with parents and/or the child.
How to access the service:
Each early years setting has an allocated Early Years SEN Advisory Teacher who is the main point of contact for the setting SENCO. They are available to offer advice and support on any matters relating to inclusion and/or SEND.
Each Childminder has an allocated Early Years SEN Specialist Practitioner who is their first point of contact for any matters relating to inclusion and/or SEND.
What support we provide:
We fulfil the remit of the Area SENCO role (SEND Code of Practice 0 – 25 years: January 2015 page 89-90) Which includes:

  • Providing advice and practical support about approaches to identification, assessment and intervention
  • Providing guidance and advice to setting SENCOs to ensure arrangements are in place to support children with SEND within their provision
  • Promoting links between the setting, parent, health services and schools
  • Providing training to early years practitioners to develop good inclusive practice
  • Promoting effective transitions from early years settings to school nursery and reception classes
  • Supporting in the development of quality inclusive environments and practice
  • Signposting to services on the Local Offer

Get help to buy food and milk (Healthy Start)

If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, you may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk.
Family Nurse Partnership logo
A home visiting programme for first-time young mums aged 19 and under.

A family nurse can visit you to help you have a healthy pregnancy and enjoy being the best mum you can. They will help you understand all about your pregnancy and how to care well for yourself and your baby. Your nurse will visit you during your pregnancy and then after the birth until your child is two years old.

Oral Health

NHS dental treatment is free for children and young people under 18 and people who meet certain criteria.


Infants should:
  • start seeing a dentist as soon after their first teeth appear
  • Visit your dentist regularly
  • Brush teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste - Fluoride helps to strengthen and protect teeth
  • Cut down on sugary foods and drink

BBC Tiny Happy People (Opens in New Window)

Tiny Happy People is there to help you develop your child's language skills. Explore simple activities and play ideas and find out about babies and toddlers' amazing early development.

Speech and language therapy for young people

Support for children and young people aged 0 to 19 years who experience difficulties with:

  • speech 
  • language
  • communication
  • swallowing
The young person can get the following services so they can develop their independence as much as possible.

  • assessment, diagnosis, therapy and management of disorders 
  • training and advice for parents, carers and professionals
  • access to professionals and voluntary organisations
The service is available for children who are registered with any Hounslow GP, or one of these three Ealing GPs:

Telephone 0808 973 3480 to discuss how to refer a child to us. Once a referral is accepted, a therapist can see the child within six weeks.

We offer a cradle-to-career pipeline of support, from the antenatal stage through to early adulthood for children, young people and families living in Feltham.

We also work across early years' settings, schools and local organisations and we are currently developing an Early Learning Community in the area with Save the Children UK.

NCT Birth and Beyond Community Support (Opens in New Window)

Support for mothers who are socially isolated, suffering from mild mental health issues or low wellbeing. We offer a 1:1 support by other mothers in the community who are donating their time to provide emotional support, encouragement, help you to access other services and accompany you to baby groups or appointments. We also run a weekly group support so the women we are supporting can come together. We can currently only accept referrals from TW3,4,5,13 & 14.

Referrals can be made by health professionals, another source of support, family/friends or by the mother herself.

Home Start Hounslow (Opens in New Window)

Home-Start is a local charity which can offer compassionate and confidential support to families with children under 5. They support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. The benefits of the support include improved health and wellbeing and better family relationships.
Families could benefit from Home-Start’s help if they are:
  • feeling lonely or isolated in your community, have no family nearby and are struggling to make friends.
  • finding it hard to cope if your child is ill or because you are ill.
  • have been hit hard by the death of a loved one.
  • struggling with the emotional and physical demands of having a baby, young children, twins or triplets. under the age of 5 years
Home-Start Richmond, Kingston & Hounslow are currently offering:
  • Regular telephone support through our co-ordinators and volunteers whilst our home-visiting service is on hold.
  • Someone to talk to and emotional support during these uncertain and isolating times.
  • Support for challenges like financial worries, relationship issues or living in poor housing.
  • Guidance on parenting in the early years.
  • Ideas and activities to keep children active at home
