Once Upon a Time Day Nursery (Feltham Hill)

Support offered for children with special educational needs and disabilities

Once Upon a Time is a one storey, self-contained building attached to Oak Hill Academy and the childcare provision linked to Feltham Hill Children’s Centre.

It is our mission to work alongside parents and their children in order to create an environment where there is a structured routine which will encourage children to express their feelings and develop a natural curiosity about the world. We promise to build confidence, self – respect and respect for others regardless of race, gender or culture. We will work closely with your child and ensure that there have ample opportunities to interact with one another as well as adults.

The tiny tots area (3 months to 2 years) and the pre-school (2 years to 5 years) are together in one room, although divided by screens. We have 63 children on our register including children from varied backgrounds including children who speak English as an additional Language.

She has completed the Hounslow SENCO Training provided by the Local Authority. Our SENCO attends regular training and forums to keep up to date with knowledge and current initiatives in SEND.

We have provided provision for many children with additional and special educational needs. We work closely with the Local Authorities Special Additional Needs advisory teacher to implement ISP's for children and have offered further support and guidance for these children and their parents/families. We work closely with a variety of other professionals who have also worked with children in the setting. We also provide additional support for children receiving inclusion funding.

Reasonable adjustments/adaptations will be made, where appropriate, in accordance with the requirements of the Equality Act (2010).

We want all children to access the curriculum opportunities off site, including trips.

The SENCO will meet with the parents/carers of a child with specific needs to plan how to make adjustments to ensure accessibility. A risk assessment would be written with the parents/carers if required.
