MiD Mediation and Counselling
MiD is a charity that specialises in helping families going through divorce and separation.
Parental separation and divorce can be a confusing time for children/young adults. Children often find themselves caught between parents, which can create anxiety and heighten feelings of sadness or anger. Those feelings can cause problems both at home and at school. Children often need help to come to terms with their parents’ separation/divorce. Counselling offers your child time and space where they can talk confidentially to a professional counsellor.
The counsellor will help them explore and make sense of their thoughts, feelings and reactions to the new situation. They will be given the opportunity to develop positive self-esteem and will not be criticised or judged.
We support children where the divorce/separation is recent and where it happened in the past, but the child now needs further support.
Family mediation helps if your relationship has broken down and you need to sort out practical issues such as:
- Arrangements for children – where they are going to live and when you’ll see them
- Child maintenance payments
- Sharing finances (e.g. house, savings, pension)
- Dealing with any debts.
- Referral required?
- Who needs to make the referral?
- Parents can refer themselves by completing the referral form on the website or telephone 020 8891 6860 and request a referral form.
Amount Children's counselling is subsidised by charitable funding. We ask for a parental donation of £25 per session to support our costs.
- Additional Information
Our counsellors are all highly trained and accredited to work with children/young adults age 4 – 18. They are closely supervised and bound by the code of ethics and practice of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
We have a wheelchair ramp, special designated parking right by the building and the ability to hold a meeting on the ground floor. We do not have downstairs toilet, but have an agreement with a local cafe where clients can use their toilets.
