Ladybird Lane Nursery

Support offered for children with special educational needs and disabilities

We have an outstanding Ofsted rating achieved on 6th April 2018.

At Ladybird Lane we aim to provide a welcoming, nurturing environment that reflects the differing abilities, needs and interests of every child who attends the setting. All key practitioners are qualified to at least an NVQ level 3; 2 colleagues have Early Years Teacher status (one of whom has a BA (Hons) in Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Practice; the Owner/Manager, Jo Short, has a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies.  Key groups are small with no more than 6 children per practitioner which allows daily 1.1 time with them and provides more time for colleagues to plan, oversee and monitor children’s progress, and to update trackers and journals.  All staff are first aid trained and have current Child Protection training.

We offer a robust settling procedure to try and ensure that every child is happy and secure when they start nursery.  We provide a curriculum to develop the children’s self-esteem, social skills and nurture their love of learning…skills that we believe will benefit them throughout their lives.

Fees:  prices vary depending on how many part-time sessions or full days you require – please have a look on our website for further information or phone the nursery.

Kerry Conkling

We first opened in 1994 and over this time have established strong, professional relationships with many agencies working in the Borough such as:

  • The Hearing Impairment Team
  • The Speech and Language Team
  • The EYSEN Team (Early Years Special Educational Needs)

We believe our particular strength is in supporting children with Social and Communication difficulties.

Our lead SENCO Kerry Conkling has worked at Ladybird Lane since 1996 and is highly accomplished in supporting children with additional needs.

Amber Langford, one of our Early Years Teachers, has a BA (Hons) in Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Practice, and Jo Short, Jade Waddon, Sindy Thornley, Jackie Cammack and Roxy Bailey have current SENCO training provided by the Borough of Hounslow.

Kerry and Sindy provide small group early intervention support for children who have difficulties with peer or adult interactions, using programmes such as PALS (Playing and Learning to Socialise) and Bucket Time. These programmes work with groups of up to 6 children and last for 6 weeks rotating throughout the year as required.

The nursery is on ground level with good access to the garden for wheelchair users.

The nursery hall is warm, bright and large with reasonable access around tables and learning bays.

We have a toilet for the disabled which is accessible for wheelchair users.

The book corner has a step to navigate but we have a mobile ramp if required.

The acoustics of our setting may not be suitable for some hearing impairments
