Connexions - Careers Advice Service for Young People
The Connexions service provides careers information, advice and guidance (CIAG) for young people aged 14 – 19 in Hounslow Secondary Schools, local specialist provision, at Woodbridge Park Education Service, the Pupil Parent Partnership and Supported Learning and Fresh Start students at West Thames College.
We visit Hounslow secondary schools and West Thames College to provide guidance to young people in year 11 who may be at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) at the end of that year, or who may need additional support to help them to apply for suitable jobs, training or other courses. This role is additional to other Connexions or careers support Hounslow secondary schools may offer their own pupils.
We offer information, advice and guidance to pupils in schools in years 9 and 11, those in the last year of compulsory education, and those in West Thames College who have a recognised learning difficulty or disability and also require additional support to plan their future.
Unemployed 16-19 year old residents
We also provide support to unemployed 16-19 year old residents. This service can be extended to resident young people up to the age of 25 who have a learning difficulty or disability.
There are two ways that unemployed young people can access Connexions support:
Connexions Drop in Centre: located in Hounslow Civic Centre library, near the cafeteria area. No appointment is necessary. This service would suit most young people who require careers information, advice and guidance or be signposted to jobs, training provision, apprenticeships or college courses.
There are computers in the Connexions area with internet access which can be used by young people to produce CVs and applications and facilitate job and course searches.
Connexions assistance is also available through a referral system. Hounslow agencies can refer young people who may not be suitable for the drop-in, and who may require additional, longer-term support from our team of Careers Advisers.
