The Children in Care Council (CICC)
The CiCC meet on the last Monday of every month.
We are a group of young people aged 11 to 17 years who are:
- in care
- living with foster carers
- in semi independence or other residential homes.
Each meeting we have an agenda which is prepared by our elected Chair and Co- Chair which raises issues, projects and consultations for you to get stuck in to and work to create change within the care system in Hounslow. Previous items have included things such as creating a change in social worker protocol which now must be carried out when any social worker is leaving to make the transition better for you. We have designed the new welcome booklets together and had consultations on health and semi independence placements.
Our annual survey helps us to create our action plan for the year and make sure we are responding to what you are telling us and how we can make being in care better for everyone.
Every four months the Chair and Co-Chair attend the Corporate Parenting Panel which is attended by all the Service managers and Elected Councillors. Service managers present their reports about what their service has been up to and our young people and the Elected Members get to ask them questions and hold them to account for what they say they have done or are going to do.
Elected Councillors are also responsible for making all the big decisions within the council such as where money should be spent. This is a very important meeting and gives us a chance to tell the adult’s exactly how their decisions effect young people’s lives and what we feel they should be doing for young people.
There are many great benefits from coming to our CiCC meetings as well as getting to improve the care system for yourselves and other young people. You get to meet with other Care experienced young people, learn valuable skills such as project planning, presentation and public speaking skills, communication and team work. All of this is great for your C’V and UCAS applications. And you get priority on all the amazing trips and activities we plan all year round.
If you would like to get involved send Chloe, our Participation Officer an email, give her a call or text or just pop in to see her anytime you are at or around The Spot.
