Support offered for children with special educational needs and disabilities

We are a private day Nursery and have been operating for over 50 years run by nuns (Missioanry Sisters of the Immaculate) MSI.

Our team is very experienced in supporting and meeting the needs of children with a range of additional needs including:

  • Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), use speech and Language screening tool.
  • Social communication difficulties (SCD)
  • Hearing impairment (HI)
  • Developmental delay (DD)
  • British sign language
  • Makaton
  • Playing and Learning to Socialise Programme (PALS )
  • Physical Literacy

Attention and listening groups, Bucket time, Special tine, Small group and one to one interventions as and when required and Individual Plan is done termly for every child.

  • We have three members of staff trained for setting SEND, a fourth member of staff is also being trained
  • SENCO/staff are confident in using a range of screening tools to support with early identification of needs
  • SENCO/staff are training in writing and implementing targeted plans/individual support plans (ISPs).
  • SENCO/staff are confident in making referrals to outside agencies as and when required e.g. Speech and Language Therapy Service
  • The setting SENCO(s) is/are experienced in making requests for consideration of statutory assessment
  • The setting SENCO(s) are experienced in making contributions / managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • The setting SENCO/staff is/are experienced in working with a range of outside professionals/specialists e.g. Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Advisory Teachers for Hearing Impairment
  • We do undertake training and obtain advice from outside professionals/specialists to meet the needs of children with additional needs accessing our provision
  • Bilingualism and English as additional language
  • Basic conversational MAKATON,
  • Sen inclusion training

  • Becoming setting SENCO

  • All member of the attended the first aid course

Our SENCO Mrs. Raghavan attends regular training and forums to keep up to date with knowledge and current initiatives in SEND.

Our setting offers:

  • disabled access via main door
  • handrails in toilets

Being a small setting we are unable to provide wheelchair access
