Reasonable Adjustments & Legal Rights

Reasonable Adjustments

Under Section 20 of the Equality Act 2010, organisations must make reasonable adjustments to support disabled job applicants and employees. Many reasonable adjustments involve little or no cost and could include:

  • Making changes to a disabled person’s working pattern
  • Providing training or mentoring
  • Making alterations to premises
  • Ensuring that information is provided in accessible formats
  • Modifying or acquiring equipment
  • Allowing extra time during selection ‘tests’

If any employers are uncertain what constitutes a reasonable adjustment, they should refer to the GOV.uk site for more information.

Access to Work

Access to Work provides support for people over the age of 16 years with a disability or health condition who are starting or are in paid employment.

The support provided will be based upon individual need and may include assistance such as support through a job coach, help with transport and/or specialised equipment.

Access to Work support can be available for students accessing a traineeship or a supported internship.
