Explore the link between spoken language, reading, and writing
Activities:
Role-play and storytelling exercises
Observing and assessing mark-making in play
Part 2: Building Transcription and Composition Skills
Course Content:
Phonics-based spelling instruction
Handwriting routines and motor skill development
Oral-to-written sentence construction
Course Objectives:
Teach handwriting and spelling effectively
Support oral composition and sentence building
Activities:
Fine motor skill stations (threading, tweezers)
Dictation and sentence-building games
Part 3: Creating a Writing-Rich Environment
Course Content:
Designing provision areas for purposeful writing
Using play to develop imagination and language
Strategies for supporting reluctant writers
Course Objectives:
Embed writing opportunities in play and everyday routines
Foster motivation and confidence in young writers
Activities:
Audit classroom environment for writing opportunities
Collaborative planning of themed writing corners
