Winter Science in the Early Years

Winter Snow & Ice Experiments Science in the Early Years

Target Audience

Early Years Practitioners

Course Outline

This 3-hour workshop is an introduction to Science in Early years specifically for the winter term. Early years practitioners will be given a tool kit of ideas on the teaching and learning of science in Early Years (ages 3-5 years) through play. The effects from these will soon be rippling through your settings. Early Years Science Provision Maps will be given to help teachers, teaching assistants and other carers to create stimulating learning experiences for very young children that develop their scientific knowledge and understanding.

Delegates will:

  • Be provided training on how to teach early years using I SEE, I NOTICE, I WONDER. This is an effective strategy to develop young children’s observation and questioning skills. It can be done with any object and provides a simple format to enhance science talk.
  • Hands on practical learning and demonstrations showing practitioners how to set up and encourage enquiry.
  • Science experiments carousal with practicals that can be taken straight from the workshop and implemented in early years settings.

Please bring to the course:

A notebook and pen. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in. Please note that this 3-hour workshop will not qualify you as a science teacher but will offer many fun and highly beneficial tools and techniques to incorporate into your early years’ settings.
