Transitions, settling and belonging
(A two part series with Debbie Brace)
Target Audience
Early Years Practitioners
Part 1 Settling In- Supporting babies, young children and their families to feel
emotionally settled from the start.
- It’s not just crying – the different ways that we can observe babies and young children communicate that they feel emotionally dysregulated and unsettled through their behaviour.
- Acknowledging feelings - a complex psychological process and can feel quite hard to do in practice
- Share theory as well as practical ideas
Part 2. Feeling welcome and establishing a sense of safety and belonging
- Triangle of Trust- Creating a warm and strong relationship between the family, the Key Person and the baby or young child . How? Why?
- Share ideas – what can we observe in the environment as well as in our interactions to help babies, young children and families develop a sense of safety and belonging?
