Course outline:

The purpose of this session is to develop practitioners’ knowledge and understanding of the main characteristics of speech, language and communication needs in order to support early identification and to be able to identify appropriate next steps of support.

Course objectives:

• To share the main characteristics of speech, language and communication needs in order to support early identification of needs

• To consider some assessment tools to support the early identification of speech, language and communication needs

• To consider ways of identifying appropriate next steps for children with speech, language and communication needs

• To share information on relevant health agencies in Hounslow involved in the assessment of children with speech, language and communication needs

Course outcomes:

Practitioners will have increased ~

• Knowledge of what is meant by ‘speech, language and communication needs’

• Knowledge of the main characteristics of speech, language and communication needs

• Confidence in using early identification tools, outside agency advice and the EYFS to support identification of next steps and track progress
