Identifying & Dealing with Racist Incidents in the EYFS

Target Audience

All Early Years Practitioners including Setting Managers, Childminders, and School Based Nursery Staff.

Course Content

The course aims to provide EYFS staff with:
  • An understanding of unconscious bias, identifying racism in early years, the impact of racist abuse on pupils’ achievement and learning as well as the community as a whole
  • Provide EYFS staff with the ability to identify BAME pupils and their wider needs within their setting
  • The importance of the reporting and recording of racist incidents and how to deal with racist incident complaints as well as strategies to support
  • The ability to critically analyse the policies and procedures to ensure they meet the statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010

Course Outcomes

Delegates will be able to:
  • Identify areas of concern and support EYFS staff in regards to addressing the needs of BAME pupils, their achievement within settings and schools to ensure they provide an inclusive curriculum
  • Have up-to-date knowledge of strategies and the procedures of dealing with racist incidents and complaints
  • Analyse and challenge their schools/settings’ policies and practice in relation to the reporting of Racist incidents
