Setting SENCOs and Early Years Practitioners
Course outline:
The purpose of this course is to provide practitioners with practical ways to support children with SEND with their Personal, Social & Emotional skills and development. This course is run over 2 sessions and it is advised that participants attend both sessions.
Course objectives:
The session will consider:
- Principles, information and guidance
- The Behaviour Friendly Setting
- Factors that affect progress and behaviour
- Tools to help assess and identify personal, social and emotional difficulties
- Normal childhood behaviours at different ages
- Observing behaviour
- Planning
- Strategies and interventions
- Working with parents
- Promoting positive behaviour
- Specific issues
Course outcomes:
Practitioners will have increased:
- Knowledge of relevant Information and Guidance including Reasonable Force Guidelines to keep children and adults safe
- Knowledge and understanding of tools to help assess and identify personal, social and emotional difficulties
- Awareness of different forms of observations and how to use these to determine triggers and confidence in matching observation results to appropriate strategies
- Understanding ways to promote positive behaviour
- Understanding ways to provide an effective learning environment
- Awareness of a range of strategies and interventions
