Metropolitan Police Service
It is highly recommended that anyone who has a Neurodiverse Condition should carry the Metropolitan Police Neurodiverse Passport or the National Autistic Society credit card size alert. Any person who requires a passport emails autism@met.police.uk to request a copy which is posted out to the applicant. We do not hold any personal data. Our scheme involves a small credit sized card which the person has to hand and can be immediately retrieved. This alerts officers that the person may have communication issues. The person carries the small A5 sized passport in a bag/rucksack which goes into more detail about how the officer needs to communicate with the person, including how to help the person and any relevant information:

Other Police Services (Outside of the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance and London Fire Service areas)
Outside of the Metropolitan area, there is an initiative called the “Pegasus Scheme” for people who find it hard to communicate – the emergency services keep your pre-registered information safe on their computer and can access it quickly if you call the emergency services. You don't need to repeat all your details.
Who can register?
Registration is free and only available outside of the Metropolitan Police area. Registration is open to anyone who has a disability or illness that may make it hard to communicate with the police in an emergency or difficult situation and anyone who lives in the local area or is a regular visitor to Scotland, Northern Ireland or one of the 43 regional Police Forces in England and Wales can register with their Local Police Services.
How it works
You’ll be issued with a card and a personal identification number (PIN) and if you need to call, say 'Pegasus', give your PIN and they'll access your details right away, which will save you time. You can also show your card to a police officer, member of police staff or other emergency services staff if you need assistance in person and they’ll know you may need extra help and support.
Only if you agree, there is an option to share your Pegasus information with other participating emergency services (fire, ambulance) and local authorities.
Pegasus terms and conditions
- Your information will be stored on a secure database owned by the police.
- Access to the database is controlled, but we may share your details with our partners, such as other emergency services, so they can help you.
- If you’re under 18 you must have your parent or guardian's consent.
- Once a year we'll write to you to check the information.
- You can withdraw your consent and be removed from the scheme at any time by contacting us.
Please note that applications may take up to four weeks to process.
