What will you learn?
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the principles of safe and respectful care in line with the EYFS, safeguarding guidance, and current best practice
  • Demonstrate safe, appropriate, and confident handling techniques for babies and young children
  • Recognise the difference between appropriate touch and inappropriate or unsafe handling, including potential safeguarding concerns
  • Apply techniques that protect both children and practitioners from injury, including safe lifting and movement
  • Support children’s physical needs in a way that is developmentally appropriate and responsive
  • Use attuned, positive interactions during care routines (e.g. nappy changing, transitions, feeding)
  • Understand the importance of consent, communication, co-regulation, and emotional safety
  • Manage behaviour safely without inappropriate physical intervention
  • Recognise the impact of adult stress, frustration, and emotional responses on safe practice
  • Follow clear reporting, recording, and escalation procedures for any concerns or incidents
  • Create environments that promote safety, dignity, independence, and respect
