Group Intervention Workshop: Early Language

Target audience:

Setting SENCOs and Early Years Practitioners

Course outline:

The purpose of this course is to provide practitioners with information and practical ways to plan and deliver an Early Language Group.

Course Objectives:

  • To provide practitioners with practical ways to plan and deliver an Early Language Group with young children that have been identified as needing additional support with their speech, language and communication skills and development, in particular understanding and speaking.
  • The session will include practical ideas, sharing of resources and modelling of small group intervention

Course Outcomes:

Practitioners will have increased ~
  • Knowledge and understanding of how communication skills develop in young children
  • Understanding of how to identify links to the new EYFS
  • Confidence to identify children that would benefit from attending the Early Language Group
  • Confidence to plan and deliver an ‘Early Language Group’ in their setting
  • Confidence in using pre and post screening tools, using themed planning and activity ideas and be able to record progress
  • Understanding of how to identify targets for individual children and monitor their progress during the group
