What is wraparound childcare?

Wraparound childcare is before and after school childcare for primary school aged children. This was previously known as breakfast and after school clubs.
This care should be available every school day outside of regular school hours e.g from 8 to 9am or 3.30 to 6pm during term time.
Wraparound is generally run on a school site but other childcare providers such as a childminders can also offer wraparound care.

How much will wraparound care cost me?

There are no eligibility criteria for accessing a wraparound childcare place, but the service is chargeable. Providers will set their own fees so prices will vary.
Parents will pay their wraparound childcare provider directly or via their child’s school payment system.
You may be able to get help for childcare costs with the following government schemes: 
  • Tax Free Childcare
  • Childcare Vouchers
  • Universal Credits childcare payments

If wraparound childcare is not available

You can request that the school your child attends, or is due to attend, consider setting up wraparound or holiday childcare if they don’t already have it. Request wraparound care
