Early Years Music Training

Target Audience
Practitioners who have an interest in music and singing and can lead this within their setting.
Course Outline
The session will serve as an introduction to music in the Early Years using both the Colourstrings and Kodaly approach – both pedagogical approaches to musical learning, suitable for babies up to Reception aged children. The training will use the Singing Rascals books which practitioners can take away with them (one set per practitioner).
This course will cover:
  • An overview of the history of Colourstrings
  • An introduction to the three singing rascals books – Pentatonic, Do and La
  • A chance to gain a whole new repertoire of songs that can be used to support musical development
  • Ways to encourage more individual and group singing
  • Ideas to support use of props in delivery of sessions
  • How to embed the use of rhythms, beats and pulses with children in your setting
  • The use of the Solfar hand signs to support with pitch recognition
  • Introducing music to children in a fun, game based approach
  • How to link musical learning to areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage
