Early Years Colourstings Music Training

Target Audience:
Practitioners who have an interest in music and singing and an interest in leading this within their setting.
Course Outline
The session will serve as an introduction to Colourstrings music – a pedagogical approach to musical learning, suitable for babies up to Reception aged children. The training will use the Singing Rascals books which practitioners can take away with them (one set per practitioner).
The course will cover:
  • An overview of the history of Colourstrings
  • An introduction to the three singing rascals books – Pentatonic, Do and La
  • A chance to gain a whole new repertoire of songs that can be used to support musical development
  • Ways to encourage more individual and group singing
  • How to embed the use of rhythms, beats and pulses with children in your setting
  • The use of the Solfar hand signs to support with pitch recognition
  • Simple song blending techniques
  • How to link musical learning to areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage
No singing or music experience is necessary.
Practitioners should wear comfortable clothing as the training will involve some physical activity. The training will take place in a purpose build acoustic hall within the Hounslow Music Service building. Please bring a bottle of water with you as unfortunately we are unable to provide refreshments at this venue.
