Course outline:

This is the first of a series of three training sessions, specifically for Childminders, focusing on key principles of the SEND Code of Practice (0-25 years) that you need to know and do to support you with the inclusion of children with SEND currently in your provision or prepare for children with SEND who may access your provision in the future.

The first of these focuses on what you need to know and do about your statutory duties in relation to children with SEND.

If you are a Childminder and want to know more about the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Equality Act 2010, this is the session for you.

During the session, we will cover key things you as a Childminder will need to know about the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Equality Act 2010. Through a range of fun and interactive activities, we will aim to bring the subject to life to help you understand key duties for Childminders. We will also have an opportunity to find out about services and resources available locally to help you to support children with SEND.

Course objectives:

The session will aim to:
  • Provide an overview of key duties for Childminders set out in the Equality Act 2010 
  • Provide an overview of key duties for Childminders set out in the SEND Code of Practice 2015 
  • Share information on locally available services and resources via the Hounslow Local Offer 
Course outcomes: 
Childminders will have increased knowledge and understanding of:
  • Key statutory duties within the Equality Act 2010 
  • Key statutory duties set out in the SEND Code of Practice 2015 
  • Resources and services available locally and where to find information on the Hounslow Local Offer site
