Course Outline
Why run an Attention and Listening Group? Attention and listening skills are the foundations of learning language. In order to learn communication skills and speech and language children need to be able to attend, notice and learn from what they hear and see. Some children find it hard to listen and attend at the level expected for their age and this can have an impact on all areas of learning.
An Attention and Listening group is an opportunity to promote communication, social and learning skills on a regular basis.
This group intervention is designed to support children to develop the skills of attention and listening so that they are better able to:
- Use greetings such as “Hello” and “Goodbye.”
- Sit in a group with others and maintain attention.
- Look at others when they are speaking.
- Listen and respond to adult led instructions.
- Listen to stories with better attention and recall.
- Show interest and tune into what others are doing.
- Wait and take turns in a group.
