Advanced Forest School Skills Course

Target Audience:
Early Years Practitioners
What is the format of the course?
The course is run over 5 days, with the first 3 mornings spent in the classroom and the afternoons outside doing practical activities, followed by 2 full days outdoors learning further activities. You will need to have a flexible approach to learning as sessions may change due to the weather. All 5 days must be completed to obtain an Advance Skills Certificate.
The first day of the course will run 9:15am-4:30pm, then all other days will be 9:00am – 4:30pm.
What will I study on the course?
  • The course will cover the following units
  • Ethos and Aims of Forest School
  • Health and Safety outdoors and good Forest School Practices
  • Self Esteem
  • Effective planning using schemas and learning styles
  • Safe use of tools
  • Basic Fires
You will learn to plan appropriate activities and lessons aimed to promote self-esteem, learning and development. You will learn to plan these within the constraints of your setting, considering the safety issues and the needs of peers, children, and staff. You will learn a wide range of practical skills, these will include the safe use of tools, basic fires, and conservation issues.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed over the 5 days through your knowledge, understanding and through completion of a diary and lesson plan book and participation in outdoor activities which is done while you are on the course.
Once you have competed the 5 days you will need to complete a 500-word reflective piece of writing on ‘How Forest School will have a positive impact on your practice’ This needs to be e-mailed within 2 weeks of finishing the 5 days.
Upon successful completion you will receive an Advanced Forest School Skills course certificate.

Wednesday 1 October 2025, 9.00am – 4.30pm
Thursday 2 October 2025, 9.00am – 4.30pm
Friday 3 October 2025, 9.00am – 4.30pm
Venue: Grasshoppers RFC, Syon Lane, Osterley, Isleworth, TW7 5PN
Cost: £150 per delegate.
A Forest School Agreement will need to be signed by the setting/school to ensure that the course is completed.
