Structured Activity Time
Target Audience
SENCOs, EY leads, practitioners, childminders, reception staff.
Course Outline
The approach introduces adult led activities followed by a child’s favourite activity.
It is a framework in which a child can be introduced to a range of new skills and tasks to support learning. It can be a first step in teaching independence skills so that further down the line they will be able to do the activities themselves. It incorporates the child’s interests / motivators as a starting point. Skills are introduced and mastered with a view that they can then be generalised into the main setting. It helps support learning to work in a systematic way e.g. from left to right.
