The full roll-out of the scheme to working parents of children under the age of 12, or under 17 for disabled children, was expected by the end of the year, but it has now been pushed back to March 2018.
Currently only working parents of children under the age of four (on 31 August 2017) can benefit from the scheme, which went live in April and is accessed via HMRC’s Childcare Service.
On 24 November 2017, the service will be available to parents whose youngest child is under 6 or who has their 6th birthday on that day.
All eligible parents will be able to apply by the end of March 2018.
Under the scheme, the government will put in 20p for every 80p parents pay in childcare, up to the value of £2,000 a year.
Parents can apply online through the childcare service which can be accessed via the Childcare Choices website.
